  • It is recommended to limit the number of cyclists in group rides
  • Cycling is not permitted in landscape areas
  • Pedestrians and cyclists alike must remain alert at all times
  • Pedestrians are not permitted to walk along the designated cycling paths
  • Cyclists should abide by the fast/slow lane protocol
  • Cyclists should yield to pedestrians


Cycling Infrastructure in Central Park


The city has designed a cycling infrastructure that has three points where cyclists must dismount their bikes and walk through foot traffic areas. This has been implemented with a view to reducing the number of collisions between bikers and pedestrians in Central Park.

There are warning signposts scattered along many miles of Central Park’s cycling infrastructure, yet New Yorkers are demanding better cycling infrastructure in Central Park. Safe and practical guys over at state it is integral to keeping both pedestrians and cyclists safe. The city has installed 47 traffic signals in the park to control congestion and signify safe crossing for pedestrians and cyclists. These signposts are already scattered along many miles of Central Park’s cycling infrastructure.

All cyclists must obey traffic laws and stay within designated areas when riding their bikes around Central Park, especially if they plan on biking during peak hours (between 8 AM and 4 PM). 

The city has set up a website dedicated to Central Park’s rules and regulations that all visitors should abide by when using the park. Visitors should familiarise themselves with the rules and regulations, including traffic law signage and an interactive map of the park dedicated to bicycle safety.
